Cold Brewing Indian Tea: A Refreshing Twist on Tradition
When you think of Indian tea, what likely comes to mind is a steaming cup of masala chai with milk, or a strong Assam black tea brewed to perfection. But as the temperatures rise and your cravings shift toward something cool and invigorating, we've found a new way to enjoy Indian tea—cold brewed. This gentle steeping method, originally hailing from Japan, has been transforming how we brew Alaya's Indian teas, revealing subtler notes and smoother textures that hot brewing often masks.
What Is Cold Brewed Tea?
Cold brewing is a process where tea leaves are steeped in cold or room temperature water over several hours—typically 6 to 8. This slow infusion extracts flavors without releasing the bitter tannins that hot water can draw out. The result? A naturally sweet, ultra-smooth, and refreshingly crisp tea that’s perfect for warm days.
